The Friends of Little Melton Church
The Friends , founded in 1999, continues to flourish and allows both regular church-goers and others with a secular interest in our medieval church to help in its conservation and upkeep. About 60 households, mainly in the village but some further afield, are in membership. Our recent fund-raising activities have been a Car Boot Sale at Colney Hall in May and a Christmas Concert by the Band of Norwich Citadel of the Salvation Army in December. One-off and regular donations, running tombolas at Table Top Events and the sale of our delicious Little Melton Apple Juice account for most of the rest of our income. A record number of 702 bottles were achieved last Autumn thanks to the many donations of locally-grown apples.
During the past year the Friends have part-funded restoration work on the West Window of the Church – Norfolk Churches Trust having also contributed. We have concentrated our efforts on our remit to conserve the existing fabric of the building allowing the PCC’s New Facilities Fund campaign to raise the necessary funds for the much-needed kitchen, meeting room and toilet facilities. Future work funded by the Friends is to include restoration work on the North Aisle windows.
